a day in the boo

for you laymen, 'the boo' is the nickname for malibu, the city where hollywoods finest rent big homes and drive drunk down the coast line.
this saturday we enjoyed this lovely little town with our fab friends, the smiths.

first stop: the getty villa, located off pacific coast highway, just north of sunset blvd with peek-a-boo ocean views.

the getty villa is a museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient greece & rome; not quite the art we admire, but definitely worth the trip.

the villa was closed 11 years for renovations and only recently re-opened.
this was our first visit.

paul getty’s own home sits right behind the museum, nearly invisible from the public eye.
now that is a home i'd like to tour...

the museum itself is supposed to be a re-creation of an old home in greece; tours are offered to explain the family dynamic and function of each part of the home.  we eagerly signed up for a tour, but lasted only about 15 minutes before we decided to move on.

next stop, paradise cove, one of the few public beaches allowing alcohol consumption, even glass bottles.
this, of course, cultivates an easy going atmosphere and attracts the masses.

trev & i played some bocceball while nicole & lea enjoyed a picnic with trevor's mom & sister who were visiting from kc.
we all enjoyed sandwiches, cheese, crackers & rose wine.
lots of wine.
cotie was much happier than she looks in this photo...i promise!

the day wouldn't be complete without a tribute photo for my dad, toots, back in sweden.
for you, dad, a view of the sun setting over paradise cove.
please note the tree-covered ledge is home to the world's most amazing trailor park; ocean views for days...not bad at all.

after the picnic we drove 10 miles up a dirt road into the canyon to reach malibu family wines [winery] where the wine is fantastic, and the setting is beautifully quaint.
surrounded by olive trees, a live band playing some classics, and the refreshing evening air, i'd have to say the night was near perfect.
the minor flaw was simply that despite my best efforts, the band refused to play any rod stewart tunes...they didn't offer a reason but if i had to guess, i would say they were too intimidated to touch the jams of such a legend.

sunday was spent hanging out on the beach, swimming in the ocean, bbq'ing and cruising through newport harbor in a duffy boat, sipping on wine.  cotie stuck to her role as captain.

it was, as always, very relaxing.
not quite sure, however, anyone was as relaxed as this sea lion.
now that's what we call a legacy...
until we meet again...
